What Does www.TwitterGrader.com Have to Say About You?

Social Media Marketing No Comments

While reading Nancy Marmolejo’s extended bio, I noted that she is ranked as a Twitter Elite user.   That captured my attention, so I asked how the rest of us can aspire to a similar ranking.  Nancy told me there is a site called Twitter Grader.

Twitter Grader is a free tool that allows you to check the power of your Twitter profile. It looks at a variety of factors including the number of followers, power of those followers and the level to which you are engaging the community. It takes just a few seconds to generate your free report. Check it out.

You learn a little something new about social media everyday, and this lesson is fun and functional.

Authentic Visibility Question of the Day: What is YOUR Twitter grade?  And how will you apply Nancy Marmolejo’s social media tips to enhance your score?   Let me hear from you!

Social Media Marketing No Comments

I first became aware of Viva Visibility Founder Nancy Marmalejo while researching great Twitter profiles for the Bye-Bye Boring Bio Action Guide.    When I read her profile, I knew I wanted to meet her.  Here are the words that invited my immediate interest:

  • Nancy Marmolejo
  • Branding and social media strategist
  • Fun, friendly, smart as a whip, and prone to creative outbursts

I subsequently heard Nancy on a teleseminar with Publicity Hound Joan Stewart during which she spoke about whether your social media profile passed the 10-second test, and I was sold on her expertise and her engaging style.

So impressed with Nancy and the value her expertise can add to the Authentic Visibility conversation,  I have declared this week “Viva Visibility Week” on the blog.  Enjoy Nancy’s article, and stay tuned for additional posts throughout this week to give you even more insight into how to build a loyal following of ready-to-buy fans.  I’ll be posting a one-hour interview with Nancy on Wednesday that you won’t want to miss.

Another Fabulous Publici-Tea™ Express!

Event Promotion No Comments

We had a full house at the 10-16 Publici-Tea™ Express at Seattle Design Center.  Just about 60 publicity-seeking business owners attended, connected, and took note of how to get seen, heard, and celebrated through the power of free publicity and social media.   Practical Social Media Founder Steve MacDonald shared practical social media tips that require little time and no money, and I shared plenty of powerful DIY publicity success stories that put into focus what really is possible for real business people who are short on time and money and ready to get seen, heard, and celebrated in the media now.

This time, I took the opportunity to invite Publici-Tea™ graduates Hoan Do, Debbie Whitlock, Betsy Talbot, and Clarina Morency or Renee Blackwell Designs to share how the lessons they learned at prior events have paid off for them with local and national media placements.   Proof is powerful.

The next Publici-Tea™ Express is set for Friday, November 6 at Seattle Design Center from 9:30 a.m. – noon.   When you register by Friday, October 30, your name will be entered into a drawing to receive almost $400 worth of business and buzz-building books and tools.  Here is a link to make registration easy.

Special thanks to Don Pham, for sharing the photos shown in this post.  View his work at this link and get in touch if you need the services of a Seattle photographer.

Thanks also to Tammy Redmon, Mark Rollo of the Puget Sound Business Journal Steve Juetten, Color Coach Cheryl Michaels, and Craig Cross of the Seattle Design Center for their contributions to making event day a big success that packed a great deal of value for every guest.

By the way, if you need a fabulous Seattle venue that offers abundant and free parking for your guests, consider holding your next event at Seattle Design Center.   Get in touch with Craig Cross at Craig.Cross@hines.com to learn more.

The Personal Touch – An Effective Way to More Than Double Event Attendance

Event Promotion 1 Comment

Do you struggle with getting the right people to attend your business events?  The challenging economy certainly has a lot of people watching their budgets.   Finding ways to set your event apart from other competing events can be daunting, too.   There is good news to report for those who are willing to extend the personal touch.  This I know for sure, based on very recent experience.

The Proof: My September 16 Publici-Tea™ Express Workshop attracted 25 people.   The October 16 event has already attracted 60 people, and there is still one more day yet for people to register.   All the same PR and advertising ingredients are still in place for me to promote the event in traditional and online media.  And, I’ve added a few more treats to make the event even more inviting and compelling for my guests.

Try some of these ideas and see how well they work for YOUR business events.

  • Assemble a high-quality collection of relevant, high value, and useful guest prizes from local and national experts to encourage early online registrations.  Then, make sure to give your prize contributors plenty of visibility on your blog and at your event to express your gratitude and see, hear, and celebrate their contributions,
  • Extend VIP invitations to influential people.  Do this by phone call or direct email with a personal message so people feel seen, heard, and celebrated.
  • Invite your VIP guests to extend an invitation to their colleagues and co-collaborators to attend with them.  Everyone appreciates the opportunity to connect in person with people they also consider to be VIPs.
  • Extend a non-profit rate to encourage decision makers from quality cause-related organizations to participate.
  • Invite your prior clients to attend at a preferred rate and bring their friends.

Here is a  link to a good article about how to plan an event to promote your business. Here is another link from BusinessWeek with useful tips to promote your business event on Twitter.

These days, social networking is all the rage.  For many, that means connecting online on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other similar venues.   Don’t forget that before social networking became the online phenomenon it is today, people still talked to each other and connected in an authentic, personal way.

That’s why my message today is this.  Don’t underestimate the simple power of a “live” conversation carried on person-to-person by phone or face to face if you truly want the right people in the room to benefit from what you have to offer.  This may sound a bit old fashioned in today’s online world.  This is also time consuming.  It also works.   In these demanding times, what works is worthy of action.

Question of the Day: What ways have you found to be particularly effective in driving attendance at your business events?   Please join in this conversation and tell us what you’ve learned!

And, for those of you who are attending tomorrow’s Publici-Tea™ Express, I can’t wait to meet you and delight you with all the stunning, decisive stories about DIY publicity and social media success I’ll be sharing  to guide you to build buzz and grow your business.

Reinventing Yourself? Read This!

Media Savvy 101, Special Savings No Comments

The “Media Savvy” column I wrote for the Puget Sound Business Journal for the 10-9-09 edition speaks to some essential questions to consider, especially if you’ve had to reinvent company products and services to rspond to current marketplace opportunities.

  • Are you wrestling with your business model in changing times?
  • Is your reinvention in progress or now complete?
  • How long has it been since you revisited the language you use to describe what you do and for whom?
  • Is your message relevant still?
  • If not, take time now to revise and refresh your message to reflect the value you bring to the marketplace today.
  • Then, re-launch your message to posting it to your website, blog, social networking profiles, article submission bio boxes, speaker introductions, and other avenues where ideal customers can learn more.

If you are a Puget Sound Business Journal subscriber, you can read the rest of the article at this link.  If you are not yet a subscriber, scroll down to the link on the right hand side of the blog navigation and start your subscription with a 20% Off Publici-Tea™ Discount.   Remember, if you want to be seen, heard, and celebrated in the media, you first have to pay attention to the media.  If you do business in the Seattle area, the Puget Sound Business Journal is a great place to start.

And, if you are READY to stop being a well-kept secret and learn essential tools, tips, and resources to get seen heard and celebrated in this media venue and others, register for the Publici-Tea™ Express.  The next event is 10-16, and the one after that is 11-6.  Here is the link to register.
