Kindergarten Teacher Offers Three Affirmations Well Worth Repeating

Business Success 2 Comments

There is wisdom all around.  A few weeks ago, while cheering on the sidelines at my 12-year-old son’s soccer game, I enjoyed a conversation with Kindergarten Teacher Doug Hansen, who teaches at Sammamish Montessori School.   While guiding his five-year-old students to be their absolute best, he starts every class by inviting the children to join with him in sharing three powerful affirmations:

  1. I am getting better every day.
  2. I deserve to be treated well.
  3. I am doing great things in my life.

Hansen believes in the innate greatness of every child and wants to build it.  Enhancing the self-esteem of every student is among his highest priorities.   When children in his class break habits like sucking their thumbs, the classmates give them a standing ovation. Hansen says that the children have to keep challenging themselves to learn and grow.  Even when they don’t get things right the first time, he encourages them to keep trying.

It occurs to me that Doug Hansen has it right, and the three affirmations he invites his students to recite each day are well worthy of repeating among people everywhere.

If you’ve been running a bit on empty as 2009 draws to a close and need an infusion of good energy, treat yourself to the repeating of Hansen’s affirmations and see how much better you feel.

Want to Get Paid to Give Speeches and Accelerate Your Learning Curve So You Can Be Successful Faster?

Be Heard No Comments

In April of 2006,  I decided I wanted to get paid to give speeches.  Deciding to do it and making it happen have been two different things.   Today, invitations to speak for fees are coming more and more frequently. Invitations to share the DIY publicity message with larger audiences in exchange for the opportunity to make my line of DIY publicity information products available for sale are flowing freely.  And, the workshops I host regularly are growing in audience.  The last Publici-Tea™ Express Workshop on 11-06 attracted 85 amazing guests.    If I could put in a bottle all the powerful lessons I’ve learned along this journey, it would overflow.

What I want for you is to get to success far faster. And I certainly want to learn even more to accelerate my own journey in this regard.    That’s why I want you to join my friend Steve Harrison of Radio-TV Interview Report (RTIR) for a free telephone seminar on Thursday, November 19th on which you’ll hear him interview author/speaker James Malinchak on how to get started giving paid speeches — even if you’re a complete unknown in your field.

Speaking is one of the best ways to dramatically increase your income as an author  — or anybody with expertise . In fact, I know many authors who make 90% or more of their incomes from speaking and less than 10% from book sales.

Whether you’re already a veteran speaker or you’ve never given a paid speech before, you’ll still benefit from James’ strategies. Steve has been speaking for years and has been pleasantly surprised how much he’s learned a lot from him.

Steve’s offering this free teleseminar on Thursday, November 19th at your choice of two times: either 2:00 pm Eastern (11:00 am Pacific) OR 7:00 pm Eastern (4:00 pm Pacific). Go here now to register for Thursday’s call.

Here’s just some of what you’ll discover:

* How to find companies and organizations who already have a budget to pay speakers like you handsomely — even if you’re not famous or well-known in your field.
* Why you should never accept less than $2,500.00 to give a speech — even if you’re a complete unknown with an ‘ordinary topic’ — and what to do to easily get that fee.
* Five critical steps for landing speaking engagements when you don’t have a lot of time to spend marketing yourself.
* Why you don’t need a demo tape or a fancy speakers kit to land speaking gigs, but what you DO need to give them instead.
* How can experienced speakers can raise their fee and get it.
* Proven ways to brand yourself and your message in a way that will prompt a flood of requests for speaking engagements.
* Four actual case histories of speakers who have gone from not knowing anything about the speaking business to making a six-figure income as paid professional speakers.
* How to put on your own ‘sold out’ seminars and workshops.
* Five other ways you can make money beyond the speaking fee you receive.
* Three critical things to ask for when negotiating with the meeting planner to make the most of the opportunity.
* Which topics colleges and corporations are most interested in having speakers address.
(AND MUCH MORE!!!)

Again, to register for Thursday’s call go here now.   I’ll be listening in on this call, and I’d love to compare notes and get into action to bring about even more speaking success in 2010.  Are you game?

Teaching Penguins to Fly …

Just for Fun No Comments

I told a story at yesterday’s Publici-Tea™ Express Workshop about teaching penguins to fly.   The idea behind the story is that it is possible under three conditions:

1) The penguins must believe they can fly.
2) The penguins must learn essential skills so they can fly.
3) The penguins must practice what they learn.

This story reinforces much of what I believe about DIY publicity and social media.  You have to believe you can do it, learn new skills, and get into action to enjoy the abundant rewards that await.

Just for fun, I did a Google search for “flying penguins” which was rewarded with some pretty amusing photos.  Flying Penguins Documentary Prank on BBC is one that made me grin.

The Flying Penguins Documentary hosted by Terry Jones, was a brilliant and well produced April Fools Day prank by the BBC to promote the BBC iPlayer. I hope you enjoy it and share it with others.

Authentic Visibility Question of the Day:
What new DIY publicity or social media actions will you take this coming week to bring your story to greater awareness so you and your story can take flight?  Please share.

Here is an audio file that offers more tips to empower your bio and business success.  The ideal audience for this message includes coaches and professional service providers.

Some of the key messages you’ll learn:

  • Don’t try to be all things to all people.  Be the right things to the right people.
  • Charge a market appropriate fee for your services because it is only then that you can truly have control over your time and your life.
  • When given the choice to write a short, sassy, compelling bio or a lengthy manifesto, go with the sassy, short compelling bio first.
  • That short bio you write serves you and your expertise just as well as it serves the radio station producers who need to sift through all your content to find the perfect words to introduce you.

Want to Build a Better Blog? Read This!

Blogging Basics 1 Comment

When it rains, it pours.  There are at least 10 clients I am working with right now who have just launched blogs and are serious about making their blogs great.  Every single one of them can benefit from paying attention to Darren Rowse.  He is the founder of Problogger. This is the fourth most popular site on the Internet today that is dedicated to helping bloggers monetize their blogs and make the most of every post.

Having participated in Darren’s “Build a Better Blog 31-Day Challenge” that launched in April of this year, I can say without hesitation that the very specific, actionable tips and strategies he advocates deliver results that can be measured in blog traffic, affiliate commissions, and beyond.

The key, like most things, is getting into and STAYING in action.  That can be as simple as reading his RSS feed daily or buying his Build a Better Blog in 31 Days Workbook.   Either way, you and your blog are golden.

Whether you have just launched your blog, are seriously pondering launching one, or just now getting serious about making it better, you should run right over to his site and start paying attention.   This is good stuff!
