Nancy,
Asking for an endorsement is a strategy many of us in sales effectiveness teach as one of the best, no-cost ways to offer a prospective customer more reasons to work with you.

A big issue for customers is tha tthey don't know what to say and often don't have the time. I offer to write something for them as a "draft" and have them review it and add to it as they see fit - then I would craft it to hit the high points that would be most beneficial - people usually are very appreciative of this.

Finally, ask for it on their company's letterhead - from there you can scan this, add it to your electronic files, or frame and create a "wall of fame" which could really inspire you on a day that you need to see some successes.

Nancy,

This is great information and how nice that you included a template for folks to use as a guideline for how to request a testimonial.

May I offer another suggestion? Any time someone gives you a compliment about your service or product, that is a cue for you to turn a compliment into a testimonial. The easiest way to do that is to thank the person for the compliment, ask them if they would mind repeating it so you can jot it down and then you say something like this. "I really appreciate your kind words about our service and I would be honored if we could put this information to use to put future clients at ease by helping them see the great results that you have enjoyed. Would it be alright with you if I typed this up and sent it as an email for you to edit and send back to me?" People love to give testimonials this way for you catch them when it is fresh on their minds and they don't have to do any of the work. They basically read it and rubber stamp it right back to you!
