Have you been on roller skates, getting organized and in motion to bring on amazing results for 2010 in your life and business? Me, too. All I can say is “Whew!”
As I said a welcome “goodbye” to 2009, I resolved to practice better self talk, hire a proven coach to help guide the growth of my information products business, and get better control over my time and my life.
I am working with heart on the first one. Anyone who struggles with this knows that getting over it has to be an ongoing process. And, I have finally hired a coach and a team of Virtual Assistants to support me as I grow my business.
It’s a funny thing. People I like, trust, and respect have been telling me to hire a coach and a VA team for the last several years. For whatever reason, I just wasn’t at the right time or place in my life or business to take action. Now, I am. The sense of relief and optimism I feel for having finally taken these essential steps is huge for me.
One of those people who has been telling me to hire a VA is Practical Marketing Expert Stacy Karacostas. She is about ready to debut her amazing guide to help you know everything you ever wanted to know about hiring a VA. She asked me to review it before launching it to the world. I will tell you this. It’s a fabulous tool. After reading it, I finally felt comfortable taking action on my own behalf.
Speaking of Stacy, did you sign up for Stacy’s 2010 Small Business Telesummit? . It starts on Tuesday, Jan. 19, and there is still time to secure your place to listen to an amazing line-up of experts who can guide you and your business to the next level of success. There is no cost to participate. I’ll be Stacy’s guest on 1-20 at noon PST, talking about how to write a rock star bio. I hope to “see” you on the call.

While visiting Nancy Marmalejo’s fabulous Viva Visibility Blog today, I found this useful post that offers tips to avoid JV’s gone bad.
It’s a timely read, especially if you are planning your 2010 activities in collaboration with partners. Muddy water is bad news when mixing time, money, and resources. Clear things up before you start, and your prospects for clear sailing will be a whole lot better.
The author’s bio box reads as follows:
MaryPat Kavanagh, President & Owner of Strategic Results Marketing LLC, credits her success in business to the many relationships she has developed over the years. To learn more about her and her relationship-building strategies and joint venture tips, connect with her on Facebook at http://Facebook.com/QueenofConnections.
I will be connecting with MaryPat on Facebook as soon as I activate this post. I am sure she has more wisdom to share to guide you successfully down the Joint Venture path, and I am going to ask her more about that!
Main Street Media Savvy Question of the Day: What are the best tips you’ve put in place to make sure your joint ventures go swimmingly instead of run into rocky waters? Please share so we all can benefit from the wisdom of your experience .

We shall soon see!

There is wisdom all around. A few weeks ago, while cheering on the sidelines at my 12-year-old son’s soccer game, I enjoyed a conversation with Kindergarten Teacher Doug Hansen, who teaches at Sammamish Montessori School. While guiding his five-year-old students to be their absolute best, he starts every class by inviting the children to join with him in sharing three powerful affirmations:
- I am getting better every day.
- I deserve to be treated well.
- I am doing great things in my life.
Hansen believes in the innate greatness of every child and wants to build it. Enhancing the self-esteem of every student is among his highest priorities. When children in his class break habits like sucking their thumbs, the classmates give them a standing ovation. Hansen says that the children have to keep challenging themselves to learn and grow. Even when they don’t get things right the first time, he encourages them to keep trying.
It occurs to me that Doug Hansen has it right, and the three affirmations he invites his students to recite each day are well worthy of repeating among people everywhere.
If you’ve been running a bit on empty as 2009 draws to a close and need an infusion of good energy, treat yourself to the repeating of Hansen’s affirmations and see how much better you feel.

Here is an interview I gave to Amber Singleton Riviere of Upstart Smart about my entrepreneurial journey and the most powerful lessons I’ve learned so far. I hope you enjoy it and gain value from it.
One of the things I speak about during my interview is how having a “hooky” brand has made a big difference in helping me attract more perfect clients and the prosperity I seek. I can’t say enough about the lessons I learned from Suzanne Falter-Barns of Get Known Now in this regard She really helped me get to the heart of my brand through participation in her Extraordinary Business Builders course. She can help you, too.
While you are visiting Amber’s site to read the interview, see what Amber has brewing to help companies in various stages of launch become Upstart Smart. You’ll be glad that you did, and you’ll want to visit often.
Main Street Media Savvy Question of the Day: What are the most powerful lessons you’ve learned along your entrepreneurial journey? If you could travel your journey again today, knowing what you know now, what would you do differently? Please share!

If you ever have a down day and wonder if your journey is worth the sacrifice, remember the words of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. He writes, “If you’ll persevere, stick with it, work at it, you have a real opportunity to achieve something. Sure. There will be storms along the way. And you might not reach your goal right away. But if you do your best and keep a true compass, you’ll get there.”
Thanks Senator Kennedy. I needed that!
Here’s a link to today’s Seattle Times book review about Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s memoir entitled, “True Compass: A Memoir” for additional inspiration to stay true to your own true compass.

I confess. I’ve already seen “Julie and Julia” twice, and I’ll no doubt buy the DVD as soon as it’s available for sale. I loved this movie. And, there are good lessons to be learned about life and business from this film. Karen Rosenzweig, the Seattle Women and Business Examiner, wrote a sassy post about some of these lessons, and you can read her comments — and a few of mine — at this link.
With all this chatter about social networking, Twitter, blogging, and beyond, one big idea this movie brings home is that a story in the New York Times trumps ‘em all! There is nothing quite like a stack of newspapers you proudly carry up flights of stairs to show the family, frame for your office, and thank for all the wonderful new opportunities that recognition brings your way.
And, oh by the way, it’s fun to get seen, heard, and celebrated in your own community newspaper, too. This morning, the Bellevue Reporter landed on doorsteps throughout the neighborhood where I live with a great story about my company. The phone has been ringing a lot today, and it’s a beautiful thing.
You gotta love the power of publicity. When will you jump in and see what it can do for you?
