I'm only on Facebook and Twitter. Personally I haven't figured Twitter out, other than how to change my status, which who cares what I am doing at the moment? As for Facebook, although I am meeting some cool business people on Facebook, it can take up half your day if you don't monitor it. It's definitely a fad that everyone is jumping on and it's certainly not as personal as talking to someone face to face or on the phone. Your clients need to know you and experience you, and the computer doesn't allow for that personal touch. Nancy called me the other day just to give a status on my order and we talked for a very long time. She did more in that 45 minutes than she could ever do online in terms of winning my attention.

Nancy:

Bravo for this post! I was discussing the social networking phenomenon with several colleagues last week and we all agreed that being everywhere and doing everything you think you're "supposed" to can, quite literally, become a full-time job. There is definitely a lemming mentality abounding, and focusing on what delivers the greatest business results for you is certainly key. Thanks for the sanity check!
