I love the story and your recommendation to start by hosting your own events is right on. That's a great way to prove yourself and, by following your other tips, to get the word out and create raving fans. Bad speaker's are a dime a dozen, so if you can offer helpful info in a way that's easy to understand (and maybe even a tad entertaining), it won't take long before you start landing all the speaking gigs you could want.
